PGR sends the STF a statement about Bolsonaro at the Hungarian embassy

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) sent a statement to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) about the stay of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) at the Hungarian embassy, ​​in Brasília, last month. The stay took place between February 12th and 14th, days after the former agent had his passport confiscated.

According to the PGR, the document was sent on Thursday night (4) to the Court and will not be disclosed because it is under judicial secrecy, informed the Brazil Agency. Last week, Minister Alexandre de Moraes gave the Prosecutor’s Office five days to give its opinion on Bolsonaro’s explanations for the episode.

The images of Bolsonaro in the diplomatic representation were published on March 25 by the North American newspaper The New York Times. The defense told the STF that it is “illogical” to assume that the former president’s visit to the Hungarian embassy was an attempt to escape.

“Given the absence of concern about preventive detention, it is illogical to suggest that the petitioner’s visit to the embassy of a foreign country was a request for asylum or an attempt to escape… The very imposition of the recent precautionary measures made this assumption highly unlikely and unfounded ”, said the defense to the minister.

According to international rules, the embassy area is inviolable by Brazilian authorities. In this way, the former agent would be immune from the possible execution of an arrest warrant. Bolsonaro’s passport was seized as part of the Operation Tempus Veritatiswhich investigates an alleged coup attempt to keep him in power after the 2022 elections.
