The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) defended in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Wednesday (14), the breaking of banking and tax secrecy of deputy André Janones (Avante-MG). The request to remove the parliamentarian’s confidentiality was made by the Federal Police and also affects advisors and former advisors. The PGR’s statement was forwarded to the office of minister Luiz Fux, the case’s rapporteur.

In November last year, two former advisors accused Janones of requesting part of their salaries to cover campaign expenses, a practice known as rachadinha. The case was revealed by the portal Metropolises.

“In this case, as the elements of information already gathered specifically point to the participation of those investigated in the scheme of embezzlement of public resources and receiving undue advantage, there is no doubt about the need to remove the respective banking and tax secrecy”, said vice-president Attorney General of the Republic, Hindenburgo Chateaubriand.

In the statement, the PGR also agreed with the request for more time to complete the investigations. At the beginning of December, Fux accepted the Prosecutor’s Office’s request and opened an investigation against the deputy to investigate allegations of “cracks” in his office. At the time, the magistrate determined that the PF should carry out the necessary investigation steps within 60 days.

On January 30, the PF sent a report to the STF and pointed out that the “investigations completed so far suggest the existence of a scheme to divert public resources in the office of federal deputy André Janones”.

Janones denies any wrongdoing. “I find it strange that the PF would ask for the breach of my tax and banking secrecy, even though I have already made them available since the beginning of the investigations, and to this day I have not even been heard”, he said the parliamentarian on the same day, at X.
