PF marks new testimony from Torres after silence in the 1st – 01/19/2023 – Power

The PF (Federal Police) set a new date for the testimony of Jair Bolsonaro’s former Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres. It will be next Monday (23), at 10:30 am.

The police forwarded the request for a hearing to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), this Wednesday (18), requesting his authorization.

The document, signed by delegate Raphael Soares Astini, says that the new hearing was requested by Torres’ defense. On the first date set by the PF, on the 18th, the former minister remained silent.

At the time, Torres’ lawyer, Rodrigo Roca, had told the Sheet that his client would not speak before having access to the investigation records. This Thursday (19), he said that “he still hasn’t had access to anything”.

According to the PF statement from the first statement on the 18th, when asked about the investigated facts, Torres was willing to answer all questions asked by the police authority “as soon as possible”.

He would have added, according to the document, that his lawyers have been trying to access inquiries 4781, 4874 and 4879, which are being processed under secrecy in the STF, and that, by guidance of his defense, he would clarify everything that is asked of him “as soon as the defense have access to the aforementioned documents”.

The defense, on the other hand, manifested itself in the statement stating that it obtained information from Moraes’ office “in the sense that there would not be any hearing before granting access to the lawyers to the entire file”.

He would also have suggested rescheduling the date of the hearing to next Monday (23rd), “considering that the minister’s office itself informed that access to the records should take place by January 20th (Friday)”.

The former minister, who also served as Secretary of Security for the Federal District, has been arrested since Saturday (14) in a Military Police unit in the Federal District. His arrest was determined on the 10th by Moraes, after the episode of coup attacks against the headquarters of the three Powers, which occurred on the 8th.

The minister said that the conduct of Torres and the former commander of the Military Police of the Federal District Fabio Augusto Vieira, also arrested, is extremely serious and has put the lives of President Lula, federal deputies, senators and Supreme Court ministers at risk.

He affirmed that the facts narrated in the investigation of the Federal Police, author of the arrest request, “demonstrate a possible criminal organization that has for one of its ends to destabilize the republican institutions”.

He also said that the PF, in a detailed document, pointed out several omissions, in thesis malicious, practiced by those responsible for public security in the Federal District “and that contributed to the practice of the terrorist acts of January 8”.

Torres had resumed command of the Federal District’s Secretariat of Public Security on January 2nd and traveled to the US on vacation five days later. He was not in Brazil when Bolsonarists attacked and destroyed the STF, Congress and Palácio do Planalto buildings.

The then secretary was exonerated from office by Ibaneis Rocha (MDB) on the Sunday of the attacks, hours before the emedebista was removed from the Government of the Federal District by order of the STF.

He is the first Minister of Justice to be arrested since redemocratization and the first member of the Bolsonaro government arrested as a result of anti-democratic acts.
