PF Director: There is a collective outbreak among scammers from 1/8 – 03/13/2023 – Power

The general director of the Federal Police, Andrei Passos, said this Monday (13) that coup plotters arrested for the January 8 acts are experiencing a “collective outbreak”.

Passos made the comment during a lecture at FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas), in Rio de Janeiro, on freedom of expression, social networks and democracy. The PF delegate said that the platforms favor the union of distant people, with similar ideas, creating a “collective soul”.

“I cite the example of Operation Lesa Pátria, which we have already had seven phases. I was able to follow it very closely. We saw that, in fact, there is a catharsis, a collective outbreak. People, I don’t know if they still believe they are in the virtual world, but they don’t realize we’re in the real world,” he said.

The delegate mentioned as an example the connection created between people with conservative ideology by the algorithms of social networks.

“Here we see the role of the algorithm, of the artificial intelligence that goes directly to a certain person who, I don’t know, is very religious, the other who is against gay marriage, the other who is against I don’t know what, who have no relationship among themselves, but they will find a link, a point of contact, and become this extremely harmful collective soul”, said the delegate.

“Social networks have multiplied with the same characteristics of psychological crowds, which have been studied for a long time. Whoever the people that compose it, however different they may be, the mere fact of becoming a crowd endows individuals with a kind of collective soul.”

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), this Monday granted requests for provisional release to over 130 men denounced after the coup attacks on the headquarters of the three Powers on January 8.

Last Friday (10), he had released another 80 prisoners after the action and, on Wednesday (8), on International Women’s Day, 149 women.

With the favorable opinion of the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic), precautionary measures were applied for crimes such as incitement to crime and criminal association, of the Penal Code.

Moraes considered that they have already been denounced and no longer represent a procedural risk or to society now, being able to respond to the process in freedom.

Like the others, they will have to wear electronic anklets and must stay at home at night and on weekends. They must also appear in court every Monday, cannot leave the country and must hand over their passports.

In addition, they will not be able to use social networks or communicate with other suspects of participation in anti-democratic acts.
