The Federal Police arrested this Tuesday (31) militiaman Taillon de Alcântara Pereira Barbosa, who would be the target of drug traffickers who mistakenly executed three doctors in a kiosk, in Barra da Tijuca, at the beginning of this month. Doctor Perseu Ribeiro Almeida, who died instantly during the attack, was physically similar to the militiaman. According to the main line of investigation, the doctors were shot by mistake and the crime may have been motivated by revenge by a rival group against the militiaman and his father.

Taillon used to frequent the same area where the crime took place. In addition to him, three other people were arrested this afternoon by the PF, including Tailon’s father suspected of leading the militia in the region, Dalmir Barbosa. In a statement, the PF confirmed “the arrest of two militiamen – father and son – suspected of commanding the Rio das Pedras militia”. The corporation reported that two search and seizure warrants were also executed at their homes.

“One of the targets was arrested on Avenida Abelardo Bueno, as he was leaving a commercial building accompanied by three armed men who were providing his security: two active military police officers and an Army soldier, also active. The three were arrested red-handed,” said the PF. The operation was conducted by federal police officers in conjunction with the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco/MPRJ).

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Ricardo Cappelli, congratulated the PF on the operation. “Militia leader. He was sentenced to 8 years and 4 months. At 2 years and 3 months he was already at home. The doctor was mistaken for him. Congratulations to the Federal Police. Investigation conducted with intelligence and planning, no shots, no side effects “, said Cappelli in social network.

Militiaman was released on parole days before the attack on doctors

In December 2020, the 1st Specialized Criminal Court ordered the preventive detention of nine members of a militia that operates in Rio das Pedras, Muzema and other locations in the West Zone of Rio, including Tailon. He was named as one of the group’s main leaders and sentenced to 8 years and 5 months in prison.

In March of this year, he was placed under house arrest and released on parole ten days before the crime against the group of doctors. The decision was signed by judge Cariel Bezerra Patriota, who determined precautionary measures such as the need to appear in court every three months to prove their activities and return home by 11pm, where they must remain throughout the night.

According to the Court, the criminal organization would be responsible for exploring alternative transport in vans and motorcycle taxis, basic services such as water, gas and cable TV, extortionate charging of “security fees” to traders and residents, invasion and land grabbing , clandestine real estate construction, as well as attacks, threats and homicides in the region.

In the attack on the kiosk in Barra, in addition to Perseu, doctors Diego Ralf Bomfim, brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bonfim (Psol-SP), and Marcos de Andrade Corsato died. Doctor Daniel Sonnewend Proença, who was also shot in the action, continues to recover. Rio de Janeiro has faced an escalation in violence caused by militias in recent weeks.

On the 23rd, for example, at least 35 buses were burned, as well as cars and tires, which closed several roads in the West Zone. The criminals’ action was allegedly motivated by the death of a militiaman’s nephew.
