The Federal District Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (Seap-DF) opened an administrative investigation this Tuesday (21) into the death of Cleriston Pereira da Cunha in the Papuda prison, in Brasília. The businessman had been arrested since January 8 on suspicion of participating in acts of vandalism at the headquarters of the Three Powers. He had a sudden illness around 10 am, on Monday (10), while sunbathing, he was treated, but he didn’t survive.

The secretariat will listen to criminal police officers and health professionals who work in Papuda, informed the CNN Brazil. On September 1st, the Attorney General’s Office declared itself in favor of the businessman’s release. However, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case, was unable to analyze the document. After Cleriston’s death, Moraes ordered the management of the Provisional Detention Center II, in Complexo da Papuda, to provide information about the case.

In addition to the Seap-DF investigation, the Federal District Public Defender’s Office (DPDF) carried out an inspection of the place where Cleriston was detained. The public defender’s office is expected to complete a report this Wednesday (22) on the conditions of the January 8 prisoners, according to the Estadão. The businessman’s defense said he had several health problems, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and was taking prescription medication. Therefore, in May, lawyers asked for his release based on his clinical condition.
