Part of the press is scoundrels and works in favor of crime, says Derrite

When criticizing the journalistic coverage of recent police operations on the state’s coast, the Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite, said that part of the São Paulo press are scoundrels and work in favor of crime.

According to Folha de São Paulo, the statement was made during the 3rd Police Operations Congress. The private event took place this Wednesday (25).

“Do you think that the false talk of a press, a part of the scoundrel press, that releases fake news saying that the individual was tortured, had his nails pulled out and then executed, no report from the Forensic Medical Institute showed bruises, much less signs of torture “, said the secretary regarding a “report” published by Folha about alleged torture carried out by police officers against a suspect during the outbreak of Operation Escudo, in Guarujá.

Then, the secretary recalled words from a former commander about the biased coverage of part of the São Paulo press.

“As a former commander of mine would say: These individuals, it’s not that they support the other side. They work in favor of crime, these cowards”, highlighted Derrite.

According to Folha, the secretary was applauded when he reaffirmed the Security department’s commitment to “hunting down” and punishing criminals who attempt the lives of police officers.

“When I say being hunted, preferably you will be arrested. I know that there are press bodies out there that are dying to release a note”, said the secretary.

Operation Escudo was closed in early September after 40 days of operation.

According to official information from the Secretariat, the balance of the operation was 958 criminals arrested, of which 382 were wanted by the courts. Some of them for crimes such as kidnapping and murder.

Almost a ton of drugs were seized, in addition to 117 weapons, including rifles and submachine guns. During the operation, 28 people were killed.
