Part of the measures for the popular car should stay for 2024

Part of the measures studied by the federal government to help the automotive industry and reduce the price of cars, allowing the return of the so-called “popular cars”, should be left for next year. This statement was made by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, who discussed the matter with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) late this Wednesday morning (24).
“We discussed several possibilities, but there are things that can only be done next year. It may even be announced, but it can only be done next year due to fiscal rules,” said Haddad before the meeting.
The minister maintained his tone at the end of the meeting. “We presented the president with some possibilities for measures to stimulate industry. Now it’s up to him to decide,” he said. Haddad said he believes the measures will be announced on Thursday (25), Industry Day, as anticipated by Alckmin last week. “But I don’t know if there will be time to process [as medidas]”, warned.
Questioned whether there will be tax benefits for automakers, the Finance minister did not want to anticipate what the incentives will be, emphasizing then that the program was designed by Alckmin, who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services.
The granting of new tax exemptions contradicts Haddad’s discourse, which since the beginning of the government has defended a reduction in this type of benefit.
