Imposing amendments are developing coffee culture in Silves

Manaus (AM) — Our parliamentary amendments are changing the lives of farmers, mainly in the municipalities of Silves and Vila de Lindóia, in Itacoatiara. “We thank Governor Wilson Lima for implementing our mandatory amendments and we are working to further leverage coffee in the state of Amazonas,” said deputy João Luiz.

The president of the Associação Solidariedade Amazonas (ASA), Roque Lins, states that deputy João Luiz’s mandatory amendments are developing the coffee culture in Silves.

“Today here at ASA we are implementing coffee in eight families. People are excited and this is just the beginning. We are currently training with personal technology to produce differentiated coffees, we participated in a competition in Minas Gerais and our product is being well accepted”,

emphasized Lins.

The coordinator of Grupo Formigueiro, Moises Menezes, from Vila de Lindóia explained that coffee has transformed the lives of rural people in Amazonas.

“Our reality was working with coal for 30 years and deputy João Luiz allocated an amendment for coffee and is changing the history of the people of Lindóia. We are promoting coffee culture here and the deputy is bringing a new economy to the residents here in the village”,

said Menezes.

Throughout his work in the Legislative Branch, the Republican allocated resources from parliamentary amendments for production, project funding, distribution of seedlings and acquisition of a vehicle.

Clonal Coffee

In 2022, deputy João Luiz, through request No. 3049/2022, indicated to the Government of Amazonas a draft on clonal coffee, which is a technique that consists of reproducing the coffee plant while preserving all the productive characteristics, such as resistance or tolerance to pest and disease attacks, which facilitates the formation of homogeneous, high-productivity crops.

Visit

On the initiative of deputy João Luiz, in 2023 and 2024, representatives from the Government of Portugal, the United Kingdom and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra met with coffee growers in Amazonas with the aim of understanding and identifying production mechanisms used in family farming in the State.
