Parliamentarians analyze call requirements for the 8/1 CPMI

Even before opening their work on the morning of this Tuesday (13), the members of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of January 8 debated the possibilities of deliberation on the request for hearings.
The government supporters are trying to implement the proposal to approve the requests of the rapporteur, Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), in a block, leaving two other blocks considered more sensitive to the Planalto for later, counting on the majority of votes to impose defeats on the opposition.
Senate Otto Alencar (PSD-BA) thinks it legitimate that the hearings prioritize figures from the previous government to be heard and that the opposition seeks to include other names of consensus in the collegiate. Behind the scenes, there is also pressure from the government for the material produced by the CPI of the Federal District to be incorporated now, considering that it meets the rapporteur’s priority of focusing on events prior to the invasions, since the elections.
Among the most requested names are those of Anderson Torres, Bolsonaro’s former Minister of Justice and former Secretary of Public Security for the Federal District; Gonçalves Dias, former chief minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) during the Lula administration; Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former assistant; Saulo Moura, then deputy director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) during the January 8 attacks; and Eduardo Naime, colonel and former commander of Operations of the Military Police of the Federal District. The opposition’s favorite, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, must only be invited.
Deputy Carlos Sampaio (PSDB-SP) warned in a letter that acting governors cannot be summoned by Congressional CPI.
The CPMI president, Deputy Arthur Maia (PP-BA) has not yet arrived in Brasília and his meeting with Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), should only take place in the afternoon. They will address the possibility of accessing confidential content held by the Court.
