CPI of 8/1 analyzes requirements with an eye on Cid and Torres – 06/13/2023 – Power

With almost 300 requests on the agenda, the January 8 CPI meets this Tuesday (13) with an eye on two of the main assistants of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL): former minister Anderson Torres and former assistant of orders Mauro Cid.

Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District during the invasion of the headquarters of the three Powers and former Minister of Justice for Bolsonaro, Torres was already a target taken for granted, including by the opposition, and should be one of the first to be summoned.

The call for Cid, Bolsonaro’s assistant, gained strength after the Federal Police located conversations and studies on his cell phone for the enactment of the GLO (Guarantee of Law and Order), which allows the President of the Republic to summon the Armed Forces .

Government allies want to reconstruct what happened around Bolsonaro since Lula’s (PT) victory in October last year, to prove the thesis that an attempted coup d’état was underway.

Federal deputy Rogério Correia (PT-MG), one of the main members of the PT’s shock troops on the commission, claims that the PF findings have placed the lieutenant colonel at the center of investigations.

“We can’t start backwards, which is what they [oposicionistas] want. Our thesis is another. Our thesis is that there was a coup attempt. Bolsonaro is investigated, Flávio Dino [ministro da Justiça] it is not”, says Correia about the current Minister of Justice.

Mauro Cid is the target of seven requests for summons or invitation by the CPI on January 8th. He was summoned by the CPI of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District last month, but has not yet been heard. Dino, on the other hand, must be invited to testify — a condition in which he is not required to attend.

Cid’s summons and Dino’s invitation have the support of the president of the CPI, federal deputy Arthur Maia (União Brasil-BA). Since last week, the deputy has also defended the summoning of Military Police Colonel Jorge Naime.

Naime was head of the PM’s Operational Department on January 8, but had taken a leave of absence. He has been imprisoned since February, when the fifth phase of Operation Lesa Patria was launched.

The president of the CPI also wants to prioritize the testimony of the then deputy director of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) Saulo Moura da Cunha and the former minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office) Gonçalves Dias.

The summoning of the two is part of the opposition’s strategy of pointing out flaws in the Lula government and reinforcing that the president and his assistants, warned of the invasion attempt, could have avoided the destruction of the headquarters of the Three Powers.

The existence of Abin alerts were revealed by Sheet in January. A compilation of reports released by the agency between January 2 and January 8 via WhatsApp was published in April.

It’s not even being summoned, it’s being invited to come here and provide clarification”, said Maia to Sheet.

“The generals who were here that day. The military in general who were here at Praça dos Três Poderes on January 8. These people have to be heard. The head of Abin [Saulo Moura da Cunha] has to be heard.”

In addition to listening to Torres and Cid, the CPI rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), intends to follow part of the path taken by the CPI of the DF Chamber and summon Colonel Cíntia Queiroz and delegate Fernando de Souza Oliveira.

Deputy Secretary for Integrated Operations of the Federal District on January 8, the colonel testified to the local CPI in April. At the time, she said that the Military Police did not follow the planning that had been defined and stated that the Army prevented the withdrawal of demonstrators in front of the Headquarters.

Fernando de Souza Oliveira was the number two of the Secretariat of Public Security of the DF. He headed the folder on an interim basis on January 8, as the incumbent, Anderson Torres, had traveled to the United States on vacation.

In a statement to the CPI of the Legislative Chamber at the beginning of March, the delegate said that there was an “execution error” by the Military Police and “a certain passivity of some”.

Oliveira also stated that he did not even personally know the governor of the DF, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), and that he was reporting to Torres on the 8th because he would only assume the position on an interim basis from the following day.
