Paraná should create another 130 civic-military schools – 11/12/2023 – Panel

Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) will publish on Monday (12), in the Official Gazette of Paraná, a list of 130 schools in the state network that could be transferred to the civic-military model from 2024. The goal is to reach 400 institutions run by police officers — there are currently 206.

In July, when the Ministry of Education of Luiz Inácio da Lula da Silva (PT) decided to discontinue the federal program, the governor of Paraná announced that he would maintain the state project that emerged inspired by what was launched in 2020 by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) , with whom he was close in recent years.

With the discontinuation of the national program, the government of Paraná decided to take over the 12 federal institutions and reached 206 schools using the civic-military model. In 2019, when Ratinho Júnior took office, Paraná had seven Military Police schools.

On November 28th and 29th, a vote will be held in the school community to determine whether or not they are interested in changing the current model to the civic-military model.

In addition to uniforms specific to the state program given to students and the presence at the school of monitors linked to the “Volunteer Inactive State Military Corps”, another distinguishing feature of the civic-military school is the curricular workload. There are extra Portuguese and Mathematics classes, as well as Civics and Citizenship classes.

According to data from Seed (Secretariat of State for Education), civic-military schools had a greater increase in Ideb scores, between 2019 and 2021, compared to the performance of regular and integral schools in the same period.

Ratinho Junior has been flirting with the possibility of launching himself into the race for the Presidency in 2026 as a representative of a right-wing political bloc, also formed by names such as Romeu Zema (Novo-MG), Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP), Ronaldo Caiado ( União Brasil-GO), among others.

As part of this strategy, he tries to promote civic-military schools and also privatizations as hallmarks of his management.
