The Government of Paraná declared this Thursday (14) a public health emergency for dengue due to the increase in the number of confirmed cases and deaths in recent weeks. The state is the ninth in the country to declare an emergency, in addition to the Federal District.

Paraná is the fourth state in the country with the highest incidence of dengue, according to the most recent update from the Ministry of Health’s Arbovirus Monitoring Panel — there are 1,366 cases of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants. Since January, 156,000 probable cases of the viral infection have been recorded.

The WHO (World Health Organization) considers that rates above 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants indicate an epidemic situation.

According to the State Department of Health (Sesa), among the 399 municipalities in Paraná, 397 have already registered dengue notifications. Of these, 366 already have confirmed cases.

The decree will be in force for 90 days and aims to reinforce actions taken to control and combat the disease.

Among the main points of the document are the intensification of home visits to identify and eliminate mosquito outbreaks, recommendations related to the acquisition of larvicides and the importance of complying with the health regulations established by the SUS (Unified Health System).

Also in the southern region of the country, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), declared last Tuesday (12) a state of public health emergency due to dengue fever in the state.

Since January this year, eight states and the Federal District have already declared a state of health emergency due to the high transmission of dengue fever in the territory. The states are Acre, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santa Catarina.

Last Tuesday night (12), Rio Grande do Sul joined the others and is now the eighth state in the country to declare a dengue emergency this year.

Since January this year, the Federal District, Acre, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Santa Catarina have also declared a public health emergency due to dengue.
