Padilha defines Conselhão with businessmen and activists – 03/10/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The Minister of Institutional Relations of the Presidency of the Republic, Alexandre Padilha, has already defined practically all the names that will integrate the Economic and Social Development Council, the so-called Conselhão, of the third government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Among those confirmed are the chairman of the board of directors of Bradesco, Luiz Carlos Trabuco, businessmen Abilio Diniz and Emerson Kapaz, sociologist Neca Setubal, president and founder of the Petz network, Sergio Zimerman, political scientist Antonio Lavareda, former -secretary and cultural producer Alê Youssef, lawyers Vera Lúcia Santana de Araújo, Dora Cavalcanti, Marcus Vinicius Furtado Coêlho and Bruno Catsiamakis Queiroga and the president of the Association of Notaries and Registrars of Brazil, Claudio Marçal.

Coordinator of the Prerogativas group, lawyer Marco Aurélio de Carvalho will also be part of the Council. He was invited to join the collegiate’s management committee and to assist Padilha in his political coordination.

Launched during the first Lula administration, the consultative body brought together different sectors, such as businessmen and unionists, to discuss and suggest measures for the country’s development.

In this reissue, Padilha has said that Conselhão will be a kind of rehabilitation program for institutional relations after the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with more space for startups and fintechs and for sectors such as services and agribusiness.

In an interview with Valor Econômico newspaper, the minister stated that the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers) will also have a seat on the council. The idea, according to him, is to put businessmen and representatives of social movements side by side to “erode Bolsonaro’s playpen and the society of bubbles”.

Padilha also advocates that 40% of the group be composed of women – before, they represented only 10% of the members.

As the column anticipated last week, Magazine Luiza’s chairman of the board of directors, businesswoman Luiza Trajano, will also be a member of the Economic and Social Development Council.

In addition to her, the chairman of the board of directors of Cosan, Rubens Ometto, the president of Febraban, Isaac Sidney, the president of Fiesp, Josué Gomes, and the director of Meta in Brazil, Conrado Leister, have already been confirmed.
