Oral health is debated during Alap session in honor of Amapá dentists – News of Brazil

Oral health was highlighted in a session of the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap) on Tuesday, 31. Dental professionals were honored with a Motion of Applause for their commitment and dedication to caring for the people of Amapá. The teams that work in the state network participated in the ceremony, including those from the State Government’s “Mais Sorrisos” program.
The program took place in the “Deputy Dalton Martins” plenary, and marked Dentist’s Day, celebrated on October 25th. On the occasion, 42 professionals were honored. The proposal was made by state deputy Rodolfo Vale, who passed the presidency of the event to dentist and deputy Liliane Abreu.
The table was made up of representatives from institutions in the category, the state coordinator of Oral Health, Cássia Klein, and the general coordinator of “Mais Sorrisos”, the dental surgeon Priscilla Flores. The session at Alap also served to debate the offering of services.
“Here in this House there were not only tributes, but we were also able to hold a debate and make demands to improve dental care in the state. The support and assistance from the Legislative Assembly will be essential to develop even better work in the area”, highlighted the state coordinator of Oral Health, Cassia Klein.
The discussions and tributes highlighted the services offered to the community, such as the “Mais Sorrisos” program, which brings free dental, health and social care to distant regions of the state. Launched this year, the initiative has already served more than 1,100 indigenous people, and covered the municipality of Itaubal.
“This debate is essential for us to advance public policies aimed at dentistry in the state. And it is important to be heard by deputies, so that they have the opportunity to also support us in our cause. We want to bring dentistry to the population, from quilombola and riverside communities to indigenous communities”emphasized the dentist and first lady of the state, Priscilla Flores.
The proponent of the Motion of Applause, deputy Rodolfo OK, emphasized that this was a way to honor professionals and put together a strategy to further develop the area in Amapá.
“We held this ceremony to honor professionals from various generations who practice dentistry, but it is a time for reflection and organizing what we can do to help improve the service for the community. This is also the role of the Assembly and together with our peers we want this caring look at oral health”said the parliamentarian.
Dentist’s Day
It is celebrated annually in Brazil on October 25th, when National Oral Health Day is also celebrated. The date also marks the creation of the dentistry course in the country, through Decree nº 9,311, of October 25, 1884.
