Opposition deputies presented this Wednesday (3) an urgent request to process the proposal that aims to overturn the mandatory vaccination against Covid-19 for children under 5 years of age. The Legislative Decree Project (PDL) 487/2023 is authored by deputy Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP) and was presented last month. The urgency regime dispenses with some regulatory formalities, such as the need to analyze the matter in committees.

Immunization against Covid for children aged 6 months to under 5 years of age became mandatory and was incorporated into the National Vaccination Calendar on January 1st. The measure was announced in October by the Ministry of Health and began to be challenged by the opposition in Congress, which defends its non-obligation.

“Without robust studies and time to prove the real effectiveness of the vaccine in children, as well as the effects of its long-term application, parliamentarians act in accordance with the defense of the lives and freedom of minors, as well as their guardians”, said deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO), in a statement.

“It cannot be tolerated that the Executive Branch interferes in acts that must be emanated from the National Congress, in an attempt to, indirectly, extrapolate the scope of programmatic norms established or under debate by the legislator to direct the efforts of the entire society in this sense” , highlighted Bilynskyj in justifying the PDL.
