Of the R$ 93 billion in court orders [sentenças judiciais] arrears settled by the federal government after authorization given by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) in November, only R$ 3.18 billion (3.4% of the total) were paid to the banks holding these judicial titles, indicate data from the Central Bank.

Furthermore, of the R$3.18 billion, only R$1.68 billion are court orders acquired by third-party banks. The remaining R$1.5 billion are court orders whose original creditors are the financial institutions themselves.

The data contradicts former presidential candidate Ciro Gomes (PDT), who on Sunday (10) posted a video in which he stated that the R$93 billion paid off ended up in bank coffers.

Of the amount paid, R$49 billion is of a food nature, largely paid to workers and retirees who had already definitively won legal actions with final and unappealable judgment (with no possibility of appeal) against the Union.
