On the eve of the reform, the government releases a record number of amendments in a single day: R$ 2.1 billion

Brasilia DF) – The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) released, on Tuesday (4), the largest amount of resources in parliamentary amendments during the current management. In all, R$ 2.1 billion were released in a single day.

The release takes place on the eve of the most important week for the government of the year, with the possibility of final approval of the fiscal framework and tax reform in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Planalto Palace set aside BRL 2,134,704,275 in parliamentary amendments, most of which were amendments by state benches. It is the phase called, in technical jargon, “commitment” – when the government commits to a certain expenditure.

The last record had been registered in May, when the government released R$ 1.7 billion on the eve of the vote on the provisional measure that restructured the bodies of the federal public administration (the MP of the ministries).

Practically all amendments refer to resources from the Ministry of Health, used in actions to increase hospital and outpatient care services and primary health care.

Of the BRL 2.1 billion pledged, BRL 1.4 billion are from state bench amendments. These amendments, unlike individual amendments, are defined collectively by state benches.

The main proposal of interest to the government this week is the tax reform, which faces resistance from some governors. The divergences, however, have been resolved and the text is on the way to having the support of most state heads.

The proposal’s rapporteur, Deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), has been meeting with party and sectorial benches to discuss possible changes in its text that guarantee the support of congressmen in the plenary of the Chamber.
