The project aims to combat discrimination, ridicule of the Christian faith
Manaus (AM) — Bill nº 183/2023, authored by state deputy Débora Menezes (PL), which prohibits satire and acts of contempt for the Christian religion in the State, was approved this Wednesday (5), at the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam). The project was subscribed by four other deputies and in the next few days it should go to Governor Wilson Lima’s sanction.
The project aims to combat discrimination, ridicule of the Christian faith, through satire and contempt that lead to disguising hatred of Christians in the State.
“The practice of any religion is guaranteed by the Federal Constitution, however, in recent years, we have seen numerous situations of ridicule to the Christian faith, usually under the allegation of artistic expression, mainly in festivities such as Carnival. And it is precisely against such practices that my project seeks to act”
observed Débora Menezes.
For Deputy João Luiz (Republicans) PL nº 183/2023 is of paramount importance, due to the possible cases registered by the country, referring to carnival plots, skits or humorous programs mocking symbols and characters that are part of the Christian religion.
“The person may or may not agree with any religion, but he must maintain respect regardless of religious practice”
highlighted deputy Rozenha (PMB).
The project also prohibits the release of public funds for contracting or financing the coverage of events, carnival parades, shows or marches, promoted by associations or equivalent institutions, that practice religious intolerance.
