Oiapoque River Council proposes certification for items produced on the border between Brazil and France – News of Brazil

Among the proposals defined by Brazilians and French at the Oiapoque River Council is a specific certification for products from the Brazil/France border region. This is a binational incentive to certify the origin of items, adding value to local production, in addition to guaranteeing the free sale of products in Brazil and France.
The proposal is among the seven listed at the 6th meeting of the Rio Council, held by the Government of Amapá, at the beginning of March, in Clevelândia do Norte, in the municipality of Oiapoque, with the presence of residents and government representatives from both sides of the border .
The certification proposed at the meeting would work along the lines of the Amapá Seal, a public policy that values products of Amapá origin. The suggestion will be submitted to the 13th Meeting of the Joint Commission on Cross-Border Cooperation (CMT), which will be held in Macapá, still in 2024.
“If the proposal is approved, the State Government will begin planning certification along the lines of the Amapá Seal, which has already certified more than a thousand products throughout the state”declared the director-president of the Amapá Economic Development Agency, Jurandil Juarez.
Oiapoque River Council
Established by the Declaration of Intent signed in the city of Paris, on December 14, 2012, it brings together 28 members, 14 from the Brazilian side and 14 from the French side. Among the representatives are the mayors of Saint Georges and Oiapoque. Meetings take place at least twice a year, alternating between territories.
The council aims to respond to the population’s demands, aiming to consolidate actions to improve the quality of life on both sides of the border.
