OAB delivers to the STJ a sixfold list of candidates for a ministerial vacancy

The president of the federal council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Beto Simonetti, delivered this Monday (19) to the president of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), minister Maria Thereza de Assis Moura, the six-fold list of lawyers nominated for the vacancy opened in the STJ after the retirement of Minister Felix Fischer.
The names of the jurists were chosen by the federal council of the OAB among the 34 registered professionals: Daniela Teixeira, Luís Cláudio Chaves, Luiz Cláudio Allemand, Otavio Luiz Rodrigues Junior, André Luis Guimarães Godinho and Márcio Eduardo Tenório da Costa Fernandes.
The plenary session of the STJ that will choose the three names that will be sent to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for selection has been scheduled for the 23rd of August. The new Minister will be appointed after the Senate has approved his name.
On the same day, the Plenary of the STJ will also choose the fourfold list of judges appointed by the Courts of Justice for vacancies after the retirement of Minister Jorge Mussi and the death of Minister Paulo de Tarso Sanseverino.
The composition of the STJ is defined in article 104 of the Constitution, which provides that, of the 33 ministers, one third is chosen from among the members of the Federal Regional Courts; one third among judges of the Courts of Justice; and one third in equal parts, alternately, among lawyers and members of the Public Ministry (MP).
