Marcos do Val says that the STF action threatens the harmony between the Three Powers

Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) went to the Senate tribune this Monday (19) to defend himself against the accusations that led to an operation at his addresses last week, and said that the searches carried out in the Congressional office violate the Constitution and threaten democracy and harmony between the Powers.

The warrants against the senator were issued by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes last Thursday (15) for alleged obstruction of the investigation of the acts of January 8 and the disclosure of confidential documents of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) .

“Never, in the almost 200 years of history of the Senate, whether in the Empire or in the Republic, has a senator, by virtue of a monocratic judicial decision, had his address and office, located inside the Federal Senate, invaded and searched for expressing the his opinion and fulfill the mandate given to him by the votes of almost 1 million capixabas”, he said.

The senator also stated that there is an excess of monocratic decisions in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which would be using powers to violate the prerogatives of the Federal Senate. The senator also denied that he had committed a crime by disclosing a confidential Abin report, saying that “secrecy has fallen” and that the document would have been tampered with by General Gonçalves Dias, former chief minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI). of the Presidency of the Republic.

The operation was planned, according to him, to be carried out on his birthday “under a strong police apparatus, equipped as an operation against highly dangerous criminals”.

In the same session of the Senate, Senator Astronauta Marcos Pontes (PL-SP) criticized the operation and said that the PF action puts the harmony between the Three Powers and democracy at risk. “We are not just talking about the investigation of a senator, but what this event represents for the relationship between the Powers and respect for the inviolability of Parliament,” he said.
