Former minister Aldo Rebelo (PDT) will take over the Secretariat of International Relations at São Paulo City Hall, a position vacated after former mayor Marta Suplicy left the management of Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

The information was published by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by Sheet. Rebelo accepted the invitation this Wednesday (17) and will start working in February, on a date yet to be defined.

As the Panel column showed, Rebelo, who was also a member of PC do B, took a photo next to Nunes on Tuesday (16) — the mayor shared the meeting on his networks.

Although the PDT declared support for Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) in the São Paulo election, Aldo stated that he should not support the federal deputy, exposing a divergence in the party.

“I probably don’t support Boulos,” Aldo told the Panel. “Very critical [a visão sobre ele]. I was Minister of Sports and he was the leader of ‘No Will Have a World Cup’ in the city of São Paulo. It was a movement that promoted breaking and sabotaging the World Cup. I can’t support someone like that, I can’t.”

The Pedestrian was Minister of Sports from 2011 to 2015, during the administration of Dilma Rousseff (PT). Currently, he has been critical of the Lula (PT) government and even went to the MBL congress last year.

The PDT leadership considers it incompatible for a party member to have a position in city hall, as the party defined support for Boulos, Nunes’ main opponent in the election.

Together with the licensed national president of the PDT, Carlos Lupi, the president of the PDT municipal directory, Antonio Neto, is considering removing, licensing or even disaffiliating Rebelo.

The former minister could also be punished by the National Party Ethics Commission for not supporting Boulos, but this would only happen after the party’s formal decision, which must be announced at a party convention at the end of July or beginning of August.

Marta left city hall on the 9th, in a move to join the PT and become Boulos’ vice president, which represented a setback for Nunes.

Marta’s deputy secretary in the department is ambassador Maria Auxiliadora Figueiredo, who holds the position after the former mayor’s resignation. Figueiredo is also a member of the PDT and linked to Aldo — he was his deputy in the 2022 Senate election.
