Not supporting Nunes in SP would be PSDB betrayal of Bruno Covas, says secretary – 7/5/2023 – Panel

Executive secretary of the office of Ricardo Nunes (MDB), the toucan Fábio Lepique claims that a possible decision by the PSDB not to support the re-election of the current mayor of São Paulo would be a betrayal of the party to the project of Bruno Covas.

“Any proposal by the PSDB against supporting Ricardo is a betrayal of what Bruno Covas designed for the city”, Lepique says to the Panel. For the secretary, the mayor kept secretaries, company presidents, deputy mayors, among others, affiliated or historically linked to the PSDB and chosen by Covas.

Nunes took over mayoralty in May 2021, with the death of the toucan, of whom he was deputy.

As the column showed, a meeting between Nunes and the PSDB municipal board at the São Paulo City Hall on Monday (3) caused discomfort among toucans mentioned at the meeting and who currently make up the party’s leadership.

Eduardo Leite, governor of Rio Grande do Sul and president of the PSDB, Marco Vinholi and Orlando Faria, respectively president and treasurer of the party’s state directory, were mentioned.

In his most forceful statement according to those present, Nunes said that Vinholi would be breaking an agreement by defending the party’s own candidacy in the capital.

According to the emedebista, Vinholi participated in a meeting in 2022 in which MDB, União Brasil and PSDB leaders would have decided that they would all support his candidacy for mayor in 2024.

Vinholi told the column that the party’s opinion has grown that the PSDB should “present an option to voters in the capital.” Faria said that the comments about Vinholi make no sense, as he would just be echoing Eduardo Leite’s position that the party should seek candidacies in all capitals.

Fernando Alfredo, president of the municipal PSDB and coordinator of the meeting, said that the party was committed to supporting Nunes and that he, as long as he is in the acronym, will be a guarantor of compliance with agreements.
