Bolsonarist deputies call for Lula’s impeachment for speech in SP

The Foro de São Paulo brought together several left-wing political parties from Latin America and the Caribbean

Brasilia DF) – The deputies of the Liberal Party (PL) filed, on Tuesday (4), an impeachment request against the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The movement was due to Lula’s speech at the São Paulo Forum, last week (29). The event brought together several left-wing political parties from Latin America and the Caribbean. The request is signed by 28 parliamentarians.

In a speech, Lula criticized the “fascist extreme right”. The petista affirmed, however, that the discourse of the left needs to be “rediscussed” so that the agendas focused on social policies advance.

“The São Paulo Forum is a blessing that we can create in Latin America. The left has problems all over the world. We need to re-discuss the discourse of the left. We need to reflect on what we want and how we are going to achieve it”,

defended Lula.

The president added that he is not offended by being called a communist, but rather when people aligned with left-wing agendas are called “Nazis”: “They accuse us of being communists, thinking that we are offended by that. But we were not offended. We would be offended if they called us Nazis, neo-fascists, terrorists, but communists, socialists, never. This does not offend us, this makes us proud, ”he declared.

The statements were quoted in the petition sent to the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).

“Regarding the 26th meeting of the Forum in Brasilia, when participating in its opening, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized the ‘fascist right’, asked for unity of the left in Brazil and said that he is proud to be called ‘ communist’. In his speech, the head of the Brazilian Executive admits that the ‘speech of patriotism and the family’, non-negotiable premises of the Brazilian people, are not aligned with the progressivism he preaches”, he writes.

“In view of the above, the immediate opening of the competent impeachment proceedings against Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, pursuant to the facts set out above, submitting the request to the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, after due processing of the same before that House of Laws and granting the due right to full and full defense to the accused, so that he receives this demand and admits its processing in its further terms”,

says the document.
