“No one will chase you here”, says Milei’s marketer to Moraes

Argentine marketing strategist Fernando Cerimedo, who worked on the electoral campaign of the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, told Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), that he would not be persecuted when visiting the country.

The minister traveled to Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, to participate in the Seminar “Updating the Brazilian Civil Code – Dialogue with the Argentine Civil Code”, promoted by the magazine Justiça e Cidadania. The event took place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, between February 29th and March 1st.

“Also pay a visit to Patagonia and get to know our whales, no one will accuse you of observing ‘too closely'”, joked Cerimedo in the “X” (formerly Twitter), referring to the investigation against former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for alleged “harassment” of a whale during a jet ski ride in São Sebastião, on the north coast of São Paulo.

Cerimedo also assured that Moraes can “express his opinions at will” in Argentina, without fear of persecution or censorship. In January 2023, Moraes ordered the suspension of the social media accounts of journalists Guilherme Fiuza, Rodrigo Constantino and Paulo Figueiredo alleging alleged disinformation.

“No problem, do it for free; here no one will persecute you, censor your social networks, arrest you, or put you behind bars with dangerous criminals and drug traffickers just for expressing your opinion”, said Fernando Cerimedo.

“Feel free and enjoy the freedom to question, ask, and even ponder conspiracy theories; here, you will be completely free to do so. You can even request the source code of our systems, just like I did before this election , and they will be happy to share it with you.”

Seminar panel that Moraes is canceled

Cerimedo also mocked Moraes’ participation in the seminar on updating the Civil Code. In videos circulating on social media, it is possible to notice that the event had only around forty participants, the majority of which were guests of the speakers.

With an agenda that aimed to stimulate discussion on global legal trends, the program was divided into six panels, exploring topics such as fundamental and personality rights in the digital era, the future of company law, and the influence of the Argentine Civil Code on law of obligations and contracts.

To justify the cancellation of the panel that would receive Moraes, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), president of the Senate; Minister Herman Benjamin of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and Tiago Santos Salles, authorities of the institution, claimed the “lack of time”.

On the other hand, it was suggested by official sources that the speakers would have a speaking role at the dinner held at the Alvear Palace Hotel after the seminar. There, in addition to Pacheco, Minister Edson Fachin, vice-president of the STF, would also be honored.
