NGOs are a parallel state governing the Amazon, says Aldo Rebelo

Former deputy and former Minister of Defense Aldo Rebelo denounced the existence of three parallel states in the Amazon: the official state, drug trafficking and NGO states. The statement was made this Tuesday (11) during testimony at the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Aldo Rebelo highlighted the characteristics of each of the parallel states. “The first State is the official one, of the prefectures, agencies and government bodies. An anemic state, deficient in everything. The second is the parallel state of drug trafficking that is dominating everything. They have social and economic power. […] There are cities where the mayor is no longer the biggest employer. Lost to drug trafficking. There are cities where every week we have news of young people slaughtered in massacres. They look like cities at war”, described Aldo.
Finally, Rebelo denounced the actions of NGOs in the Amazon, saying that they form a “parallel State governing the Amazon in fact, with the help of the Brazilian State”. “The NGOs govern the Amazon with the help of Ibama [Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente]in the MP [Ministério Público]from Funai [Fundação Nacional dos Povos Indígenas]from the Ministry [dos Povos Indígenas] newly created”, said the former minister.
