Janja receives representatives from Complexo do Alemão in Brasília

The first lady Janja Lula da Silva received representatives of social movements from Complexo do Alemão in Brasília, this Tuesday morning (11). The announcement of the meeting was published in a video on social networks.

According to Janja, there were two meetings with four representatives of the Rio de Janeiro community to discuss public policies aimed at housing, housing and education and university. Among the participants was Camila Moradia, leader of the Struggle for Housing Movement in Alemão and a member of the government’s Economic, Social and Sustainable Development Council – known as Conselhão.

“Today we have a day dedicated to Complexo do Alemão. […] Complex, a kiss,” said Janja in the video.

Shortly after the meetings, at the end of the morning, Janja published a photo in which other members of the government also appear, including the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho.

“Camila Moradia and the Complexo do Alemão Struggle for Housing Commission presented demands and suggestions to the minister and his team so that they can dialogue with the State and municipality and, together, work on solutions to meet this historical demand of the community”, he said.

In mid-March, Minister Flávio Dino, of Justice, was in the Nova Holanda favela, in Complexo do Alemão, to participate in an event promoted by the NGO Redes da Maré. At the time, a video recorded during the visit went viral on social media and led Dino to give explanations to the Chamber of Deputies.

The visit raised suspicions about the circumstances, as the area is dominated by organized crime and only accessible after authorization from the criminal group Comando Vermelho. Police raids usually result in confrontation on the spot.

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security reported at the time that Flávio Dino and his team were at the scene accompanied by agents from the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, the Military Police and the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro. In a statement, the Federal Police confirmed that they provided security for Dino at the time.
