New head of PRF says body has no party – 02/08/2023 – Power

The new Director General of the Federal Highway Police, Fernando Oliveira, said this Wednesday (8th) that the PRF is a State body and does not agree with an attack against democracy.

“Today, February 8, a month after one of the most deplorable episodes in the Brazilian State, it is clear that the defense of republican ideals cannot be merely rhetorical. It must be practiced daily in every action, gesture, word,” he said in a speech during your possession.

“The PRF’s genuine values, such as education, civility, respect for others are essential for the nation. The Federal Highway Police, as a state body, has no party and will not agree to any attack against democracy. . May there be peace for Brazilians,” he added.

During the speech, the new general director also said that isolated acts cast distrust on the corporation. For him, it is necessary for the PRF to recover its essence as a citizen police.

“But in recent years, isolated acts, some abhorrent, have cast a veil of distrust over the PRF. The reputation polished over decades has suddenly been affected and tarnished”.

Already at the press conference, the new general director explained that the abominable acts are all those contrary to the provisions of the legislation. “Anytime there is unnecessary excess force is abhorrent,” he said.

When asked about internal investigations against the former general director of the PRF Silvinei Marques, he avoided talking about the matter saying that he was not aware of the process. However, he assessed that depending on the result there may even be a loss of retirement.

Silvinei has been the subject of several investigations to analyze whether the vehicle blockades carried out by the PRF on polling day on several roads, mainly in the Northeast region, respected the legislation and whether they did not constitute an offense to the free exercise of the right to vote by the citizens approached.

“There is already a procedure in internal affairs that runs in secrecy. In case of culpability, then I go generically and not specifically to the former director, in case of culpability of disciplinary law, retirement does not end the process. It can be in the end, if there is responsibility, there will be annulment of retirement in the most serious case”, he said.

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, was present at the inauguration and, on the occasion, promised to look into the issue of salaries for security forces agents.

During the ceremony, two documents were signed reiterating PRF’s commitment to human rights and the environment. The first is a memorandum of understanding with the Childhood Institute to combat the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

The second is a technical cooperation agreement with Ibama for the exchange of information and joint actions in the areas of inspection, intelligence and training.

The new director-general also promised coordination in the area of ​​human rights and the appreciation of civil servants. “Not only will classes return to the training curriculum [direitos humanos]but we are creating a general coordination of human resources to be able to apply human resources policies to all PRF personnel and to all PRF actions”, he said.

Oliveira’s name came up after the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, canceled the appointment of road police officer Edmar Camata to command the PRF.
