New gun decree should come out this Friday, July 20

This Thursday (20), the Planalto Palace may define the final version of the new decree that will regulate the use of weapons in the country. According to the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, the text will be published by this Friday (21). The expectation is that the document will be signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

One of the points of divergence between the Ministries of Defense and Justice is the acquisition of 9mm pistols. While the Defense defends the liberation, the Justice proposes the prohibition. The information is portal g1.

Sector businessmen have mobilized in Brasília to maintain the release of this type of pistol, which was authorized during the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). However, sources close to the Planalto Palace indicate that the trend is towards prohibition.

The technical argument for banning the sale is the degree of lethality associated with the 9mm pistol. In the political sphere, the subject again generates divergences between Defense and Justice, and there are also favorable and contrary opinions in Congress. President Lula should discuss the matter with his assistants this Thursday.

The new decree on weapons was presented by the Ministry of Justice in May and received proposals from the Ministry of Defense, which were incorporated into the text. It is currently in the final stage of analysis at the Secretariat of Legal Affairs of the Civil House.

A People’s Gazettethe president of the so-called Public Security Parliamentary Front, deputy Alberto Fraga (PL-DF), stated that the bench had been in dialogue with the government to avoid confiscation of weapons.

“What we negotiated with the Ministry of Justice was that they would release all the weapons that were bought and sold until December 31st. Another point that was agreed upon is that there would be no confiscation of weapons and whoever bought it, bought it; and from now on follow the current rules”, said the deputy.
