Licensed deputy Yury do Paredão said this Thursday (20) that he met with the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, who warned him of his expulsion from the party.

“I respect the decision of the president [Valdemar]. And I appreciate the opportunity given in the 2022 election,” said Paredão.

“I continue as a federal deputy defending democracy, doing politics with dialogue, respect, without radicalism, with tolerance, and defending the actions of governments that bring improvements to the Brazilian people.”

The representative of Ceará in the Chamber of Deputies is part of the PL wing that is more connected to the centrão, and not to the group called “root Bolsonarism”.

Since the beginning of the year, Paredão had been the target of criticism from his supporters for getting closer to the Lula (PT) government, posing for photos alongside ministers and the PT himself, in addition to voting with the Executive on certain matters.

He was one of the 30 PL deputies who voted in favor of the new fiscal framework in the Chamber, and also one of those who most discussed with parliamentarians in a WhatsApp group that brings together the PL deputies of the current legislature.

“It is an honor to welcome President Lula to my city Juazeiro do Norte (…) We look forward to discussing ideas and solutions for the development of our state. Together, we can build a stronger and fairer Ceará for all”, he wrote on May 12 in a social network.

The parliamentarian posed for a photo alongside President Lula, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana (PT), and the Governor of Ceará, Elmano de Freitas (PT).

The publication prompted comments from Valdemar. “I haven’t spoken with Yury yet, but I’m already advancing that if he greeted Lula because he thinks he governs the right way, he has to leave the Party and look for another party”, stated the president of the PL.

“But if he greeted the liturgy of the office of President of the Republic out of cordiality and respect, he is correct. Opposition and hatred are very different things. We are opposition to Lula and will continue like this.”

According to reports, the last straw was the release of photographs in which the parliamentarian appears making an “L” sign with ministers Paulo Pimenta (Secom) and Waldez Góes (Regional Development) during an agenda in Salgueiro, Pernambuco, last Thursday (13). Deputy Pedro Campos (PSB-PE) shared one of the photos on his Twitter profile.

This Wednesday (19), on the same social network, Paredão stated that the tax reform, the new fiscal framework, Desenrola and Minha Casa Minha Vida are projects that have the potential to boost economic growth in Brazil.

“I am optimistic about the future and the positive transformations that these initiatives can bring to the country,” he said.

In the PL, the wing most connected to former president Jair Bolsonaro celebrates the decision of the party leader and considers it to be an important message.
