Country will also host Copa America in 2024 and World Cup in 2026
The first edition of the new FIFA Club World Cup with 32 teams will be held in the United States in 2025, said the highest body of world football on Friday (23).
FIFA had announced in March that the revamped Club World Cup will be played every four years from June 2025. The governing body unanimously named the United States as the host of the competition for the first expanded edition.
The United States will also host the 2024 Copa America and are also co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup along with Mexico and Canada.
The champion teams of their confederations between 2021 and 2024 will be eligible to play in the new Club World Cup, which means that Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City are already classified by Europe. Palmeiras and Flamengo are also guaranteed by South America.
The current version of the FIFA Club World Cup – an annual competition featuring seven teams – will be discontinued after 2023.
FIFA said it had also agreed to delay the launch of the 2030 World Cup bidding process for “further consultations with all key stakeholders”.
