“New Civil Code is the dream of abortionists”, says senator

Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) criticized this Thursday (7) the draft that intends to change the Brazilian Civil Code. During a speech in the Senate plenary, he highlighted that the proposal intends to establish the definition of the unborn baby as a “pre-uterine or uterine human life potential”, which introduces into the Civil Code the notion that the baby, before being born, there would be no human life.

For the senator, this change, in particular, is “the dream of abortionists”. The parliamentarian cited the report from the People’s Gazette about the changes (read the full document).

“It is a true aberration, which wants to impose a perspective that insults biology by defining that the baby before being born is not human and is not an animal, so it would become just a disposable thing, it is the dream of abortionists, who defend legalization of the murder of children in the mother’s womb,” said Girão.

“This is just one of the controversial points, which represents a huge setback. They exist [no texto] many others, just as serious [quanto], which even deal with the nefarious gender ideology”, he highlighted. He pointed out that there was not enough time for the necessary discussion of possible changes in legislation with all sectors of society.

“The period of time that generated the need for change was almost 90 years, the draft approved in 2002 began to be prepared in 1960. This is because a review of this nature needs to be faithful to the customs and broad culture of the majority of the population, respecting, of course, social minorities”, stated the senator.

“In just 20 years there have been such significant changes in the predominant values ​​of society that they justify a broad update”, he questioned. Girão made an appeal to the Senate committee that presented the draft for the change in the Civil Code.

The senator asked the members of the collegiate to leave “militant ideological positions aside” and focus on “technical positions that really propose effective and beneficial changes to Brazilian society”.

“Respecting the family as the basis of society and rights as fundamental as life from fertilization, freedom and private property”, he concluded. After Girão’s speech, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), denied that the commission intends to draft a new Civil Code based on updating what has already existed for just over two decades.

According to Pacheco, the objective of the collegiate is to “fill existing gaps” in current legislation. “There is no prospect of ideological radicalization in a discussion of civil law, and I don’t think this will happen even in the commission of jurists,” he said. The president of the Senate highlighted that all proposals in the draft will be widely discussed by Congress.
