New Balance announces first sponsorships for elite runners in Brazil – 07/06/2023 – Na Corrida

The list of sports equipment manufacturers that sponsor elite Brazilian street running athletes has just grown. New Balance announces this Wednesday (7th) its first four names to compete in the national and international marathon circuit.

The highlight is Justino Pedro da Silva, 38 years old, two-time champion of the Rio de Janeiro International Marathon and record holder for the race. Added to him is Edson Amaro dos Santos, twice runner-up in the Rio event, and José Marcio Leão, summoned to represent Brazil in the marathon at the next Athletics World Championship, in August, in Hungary.

New Balance also agreed to sponsor MIrela Saturnino, two-time South American marathon champion in 2017 and 2022, and bronze medalist at the Pan American Games in Venezuela, in March.

The novelty is part of New Balance’s movement to increase its presence in the world of street running in Brazil. The company sponsors some of the biggest marathons in the world, such as London, New York and Valencia. In Brazil, the movement is recent. The first event supported by the brand was the Porto Alegre Half Marathon, held in April.

“As part of New Balance’s proposal to conquer more and more space in the world of street running in Brazil, a natural way to achieve this goal would be to associate the brand with the best runners we have in the country today. The four athletes will make their official debut for the brand this weekend, at the Rio de Janeiro International Marathon.
