MST CPI has an argument and expulsion of an activist from the session – 05/31/2023 – Power

The session of the CPI of the MST this Wednesday (31) had discussions between parliamentarians from the allied base of President Lula (PT) and the opposition right in its first minutes, criticisms of the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), to the movement without land and the determination for an activist to leave the plenary after an argument.

Before Caiado began to speak, PSOL parliamentarians Sâmia Bomfim (SP) and Talíria Petrone (RJ), in addition to PT president Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), presented a series of points of order —all of which were rejected by the president of the collegiate , Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Zucco (Republicanos-RS).

At one point, deputy Abilio Brunini (PL-MT) stood in front of the PSOL deputies, who repeatedly asked him to leave the place. The nurse and activist Líbia Bellusci interfered and came out in defense of the parliamentarians.

Zucco, then, at the request of the rapporteur of the CPI, Ricardo Salles (PL-SP), asked that the activist be removed from the plenary session —which caused an argument between the deputies, agents of the Legislative Police who were in the plenary session and parliamentarians of the opposition.

“There are a lot of people screaming back there and nobody does anything. A congressman came up to two women congressmen and you didn’t do anything”, said Sâmia.

Zucco withdrew from the decision.

A few minutes later, the activist reacted to a speech by Caiado, and Zucco asked that she be removed from the plenary. There was another argument, deputy Marcon (PT-RS) criticized Zucco’s attitude, and the activist left the place accompanied by the agents.

Parliamentarians from the allied base criticized the decision, saying that other people who are following the session also react to speeches and are not removed from the place.

The invitation for Caiado to participate in the session came from a request by federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) that was approved in a CPI session on Tuesday (30). In the justification, Gayer stated that Caiado was invited to “enrich the debate”.

“The presence of the governor as a guest at the CPI will enrich the debate since the state of Goiás does not have any occupation by the MST”, says the request.

Caiado is an ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), linked to the ruralist agenda and was president of the UDR (União Democrática Ruralista). Throughout his speech, he made a series of criticisms of the MST, stating that it is a clandestine movement, without transparency and insinuating its relationship with drug trafficking.

“Invasions were used in many states, first, to be a point where not even the police could enter (…) where people who carried out drug trafficking took shelter in these false occupation settlements that were made to carry out what they wanted from there. was drug trafficking,” he said.

“I’m not afraid of right-wing governments or governments of the right or center. I’m afraid of governments that are controlled there by drug trafficking. Let it be very clear what I’m saying,” he said.

Parliamentarians such as Gleisi and Nilto Tatto (PT-SP) criticized the governor, stating that he was making serious conclusions and accusations —and that it was necessary to present evidence of this.

“Fake News Alert! At the CPI, the governor of Goiás is extrapolating, accusing MST of crimes, involvement with drug trafficking and saying that the movement is clandestine. Lie!!! ALL MST activity is registered with the rendering of accounts duly made to the organs #ToComMST”, wrote Gleisi on social networks.

He also encouraged the approval of bills that toughen the punishment for those who invade land and that these people are prohibited from benefiting from the government’s social policies.

Zucco ended the session after a heated exchange between Caiado and PT deputy Paulão (PT-AL). The petista said that Caiado was “unfortunate” when he “generalized that the MST is a criminal organization” and asked about people who donated to the governor’s campaign, citing that one of them had a supposed relationship with drug trafficking — a topic brought up for debate in a question asked by Congresswoman Sâmia Bomfim earlier.

Caiado responded by asking for respect for the PT, stating that he had “fulanized” the debate and diverted the focus of the CPI “because there is no argument”. Caiado also stated that Paulão was a liar and said that he is not “like” the petista.

“You don’t have the morals to address me, don’t enter the person’s CPF. You don’t know me, I’m not your kind and I don’t participate in your tricks”, he said.

“Your Excellency needs to have more respect for me. I demand respect, okay? I’ve never addressed Your Excellency in a disgraceful way. Shut up, I’m talking now. Shut up. Shut up”, he said.

Deputies got up from their chairs and started filming the exchange. Salles then suggested that Zucco end the session.
