The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Federal District opened, this Tuesday afternoon (17), an inquiry to investigate public authorities for alleged “intentional omission” in guaranteeing the security of federal public buildings during the anti-democratic acts of January 8. Investigations may cover the governor removed from the DF, Ibaneis Rocha, the former Minister of Justice and former Secretary of Public Security of the DF, Anderson Torres, in addition to the military.
In the ordinance for the initiation of the civil inquiry, prosecutor Carlos Henrique Martins Lima highlighted that in the investigation already under way in the Federal Supreme Court on the case, “there is described evidence that public authorities, including the military, intentionally failed to fulfill their role of guaranteeing security of federal public buildings in the criminal episodes of January 8, 2023”.
Lima also stated that “intentional omissions may constitute an act of administrative impropriety”. The inquiry will run in secrecy and a period of one year has been set for investigations.
