Lewandowski rejects habeas corpus for arrested vandals

Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), rejected two habeas corpus (requests for freedom) from two people arrested for involvement in coup acts in Brasília on January 8. The defenses asked for the revocation of the arrests determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
Lewandowski cited the consolidated understanding of the Court, according to which it is not possible to process habeas corpus against an act by a collegiate body of the Court or any minister.
The minister is also rapporteur for an action proposed by lawyer Carlos Alexandre Klomfahs who asks for “safe conduct” from former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District (DF), Anderson Torres. Bolsonaro is investigated for inciting acts and Torres, for failing to command the security forces on the day. Klomfahs is the same lawyer who filed a writ of habeas corpus at the Superior Military Court (STM) to release the detainees after the January 8 acts. The request was denied.
