‘They come after me’, said the senator to interlocutors
Sao Paulo-SP) – Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) believes that he will be the new target of the Electoral Justice after the impeachment of the mandate of the now former federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR).
The two acted in Operation Lava Jato in the past decade. Moro was a judge and Dallagnol was a prosecutor.
Moro’s tension is justified: in higher courts, his conviction is taken for granted.
According to interlocutors who spoke with the former judge this week, he was extremely concerned about the lawsuit against Deltan Dallagnol, and tried to get support including from the Bolsonaro family to try to avoid the worst, that is, the loss of his colleague’s mandate.
The president’s children, however, decided to stay away from the dispute.
Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, appointed by Bolsonaro to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), voted against Dallagnon at the TSE, which was understood as a sign that the family was not really involved in the matter.
Moro stated in the conversations that he believed that, after removing Dallagnol, ‘they would come after me’, to cancel his term in the Senate.
According to the same interlocutors, Moro believes that nothing is by chance and that there is an organized strategy ‘back there’ to exclude Lava Jato protagonists from the political scenario.
Moro’s election is being questioned in the Electoral Court of Paraná by the PL.
The party filed a request to revoke his mandate in December 2022, questioning alleged irregularities in campaign spending.
If the former judge loses his mandate, the runner-up in the election, former federal deputy Paulo Martins, can take his place in parliament.
Martins ran for office on the PL.
When the impeachment request was presented, Moro said on his Twitter profile that the opponent “has the nerve to falsely accuse me of irregularity to win the Senate mandate on the mat”.
Moro’s advisory states that he will not comment on the matter.
On Tuesday (16), he said on Twitter that he regrets the impeachment of Deltan Dallagnol.
“It is with great sadness that I receive information about the impeachment of the @deltanmd federal deputy mandate. I am appalled to see outside Parliament an honest voice in politics that has always been in search of improvements for the Brazilian people. Lose politics. My solidarity with the voters of Paraná and the citizens of Brazil”, wrote the former magistrate.
