Senator Sergio Moro (União-PR) and lawyer Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, coordinator of the Prerogativas group, had a discussion in a WhatsApp group after the decision of the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region to suspend Judge Eduardo Appio, responsible for the processes remnants of Lava Jato.

The discussion took place in the Pensadores da Justiça group, which brings together professionals and authorities linked to the legal field, such as the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, the President of the OAB, Beto Simonetti, the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, and former STF minister Ricardo Lewandowski, among others.

Early this Tuesday morning (23), Moro shared the TRF-4 decision that removed Appio.

Carvalho countered, saying that “if there really are reasons, the removal is very welcome”.

“But when it comes to a court [TRF-4] which until now has been conniving, omitting and complicit in the greatest number of irregularities in the history of our justice system, caution is the best recommendation. Always good to give the benefit of the doubt,” he wrote.

Prerogativas, aligned with the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government, was one of the biggest critics of Lava Jato and the methods adopted by Moro and the former group of prosecutors in the operation.

Moro then shared news about the recording of an alleged “hazing” passed by Appio on the son of former Lava Jato rapporteur Marcelo Malucelli in court pretending to be a Federal Justice employee.

Carvalho again hit back, calling the senator “Mr. Sergio”. “This court is not very Catholic, is it? It used to apply very particular rules and understandings. I think it’s too early to celebrate. The world doesn’t turn, it capsizes”. The reference is to the fact that the TRF-4 confirmed most of Moro’s decisions during Lava Jato.

The former judge retorted that “no one is celebrating other people’s misfortune, but their offensive statements to the court”.

Carvalho then invited Moro to a public debate, and with irony, suggested that the impeached deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) could be the mediator. “I think he will have plenty of time soon.”

When contacted, Carvalho confirmed the content of the dialogue and said he found the stance of former judge Sergio Moro “shameful and incoherent”.
