The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes determined this Friday (28) that the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration of the Federal District inform if it has the necessary conditions to guarantee the health of Anderson Torres. The magistrate also questioned whether the secretariat thinks “the transfer” of Torres to a “penitentiary hospital” is convenient. Moraes gave 48 hours for the manifestation to be forwarded to the Court.

The minister made the request based on the arguments and reports presented by the defense of the former Secretary of Public Security of the DF. Last Wednesday (26), the lawyers filed a habeas corpus alleging that Torres was at “risk of suicide” after having worsened his health in prison in recent weeks. The defense also said that the former Minister of Justice has psychiatric problems, which cause impairment of cognitive functions. This Friday (28), Minister Roberto Barroso rejected the release request.

In the decision, Moraes asks that the Military Police’s Operational Aviation Battalion (Bavop), where Torres has been imprisoned since January, inform if it has the conditions to guarantee the former secretary’s health, specifying the measures that have already been adopted. The battalion must also inform “whether it considers it convenient to be transferred to a penitentiary hospital”.
