Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), ordered the release of 149 prisoners for the coup attacks on January 8.
According to the communiqué released this Wednesday (8), the court prioritized the analysis of the situation of women in the week of International Women’s Day and considered all the requests for provisional release requested by prisoners for the acts.
Also according to the court, the decisions on provisional freedoms had a favorable opinion from the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic). Moraes applied precautionary measures to the defendants, such as a ban on leaving the district and home confinement at night and on weekends using an electronic anklet.
The group will answer for the crimes provided for in Articles 286 (incitement to crime) and 288 (criminal association) of the Penal Code, whose combined penalties can reach up to three and a half years of deprivation of liberty and a fine.
With the decision, a total of 407 women have been released so far; another 82 remain in prison. In all, 489 women were detained among 1,406 arrested on January 9, the day after the acts.
