CNJ analyzes deputies’ request against new Lava Jato judge in Curitiba

The new judge of the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba, Eduardo Appio, may have to give explanations to the National Council of Justice (CNJ) for a request for removal made by a group of federal deputies this week. A People’s Gazettethe body confirmed this Wednesday (8) that it received the Disciplinary Complaint against the magistrate and that it is customary for him to be “urged to manifest himself”.

According to the CNJ, the process is being carried out in secrecy and investigates the existence of electoral donations on behalf of the magistrate for the campaign of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Paraná state deputy Ana Júlia Ribeiro (PT), according to information contained in the request of parliamentarians. Donation information is available on the Divulgacand 2022 website, with a value of R$ 13 for Lula’s campaign and R$ 40 for the congresswoman’s campaign.

Appio would also have given critical statements to the conduct of the work of the former members of Operation Lava Jato, in which some of the processes are still being processed in the Curitiba court. Last week, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) asked that Appio be declared a suspect in the cases.

On Tuesday night (7), Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), deputy leader of the opposition in the Senate, said on social media that the representation accepted by the CNJ is a “promising start”.

“One of the main reasons that led me to enter politics is the search for the truth. Lava Jato’s legacy reminds us that no one is above justice,” he said.

According to the deputies’ request, Appio also used the login code “LUL22” to access the Paraná Justice E-proc System. “By choosing ‘LUL22’ as one of his personal logins, the accused magistrate not only gave clear evidence of his party-political preferences, but also made electoral propaganda for the candidate Lula to the other users of the system”, mention the parliamentarians in the letter.

The deputies Deltan Dallagnol (Pode-PR), former Lava Jato attorney, sign the request; Adriana Ventura (Novo-SP), Alfredo Gaspar (União-AL); Kim Kataguiri, Luiz Phillipe Bragança (PL-SP); Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS); Maurício Marcon (Pode-RS) and Pedro Aihara (Patriota-MG).

Sought by the report this Tuesday (7), Judge Eduardo Appio did not comment on the removal request submitted by the federal deputies to the CNJ.
