Moraes determines new physical and mental evaluation of Roberto Jefferson

Brasilia DF) – Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), accepted a statement from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and determined that the health status of former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson, arrested since October last year, be reassessed.
The need for a new assessment is because the Hospital Samaritano, in Rio de Janeiro, where the former parliamentarian has been since June, reported that Jefferson has evolved in his health and may be discharged. This would require his return to the prison environment.
Jefferson’s defense, however, alleges that he is unable to return to prison. The PGR manifested itself for a new medical evaluation and the minister agreed with the need. According to lawyers, Roberto Jefferson needs proper medical treatment outside prison. According to supporters, he has already lost about 16 kg.
Thus, Alexandre de Moraes determined that examinations and evaluation of Roberto Jefferson’s physical and mental condition be carried out by an official medical board. After the result, the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration of Rio de Janeiro (Seap) will comment on the capacity, or not, of the penitentiary hospital to continue the medical treatment of Jefferson, today in a private hospital.

Jefferson has been in prison since October last year for offering armed resistance to the execution of the arrest warrant issued by Moraes.
At the time, the former congressman fired rifle shots and threw grenades at the police officers who went to the scene. Due to the episode, he was indicted by the Federal Police for four attempted murders and became a defendant.
The warrant was issued after the former parliamentarian posted a video on the internet in which he offended minister Cármen Lúcia with profanity.
