Deputies did “no favors” to the government in approving the tax reform

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Wednesday morning (12), that the approval of the tax reform projects and the “quality vote” in the Chamber of Deputies was “no favor” for the government, and yes to the very image of Congress.
The statement was given during the launch event of the National Science and Technology Council, in which he reinstated the collegiate body, signed a decree to convene a conference in 2024 and delivered a commendation.
Lula read a speech about the event and, among other impromptu statements, said that nobody believed that the government would manage to approve the tax reform “with the haste that we approved in the Chamber”. The project was approved with 382 votes in the first discussion and 375 in the second, last week.
“No deputy or senator has done a favor for me or a favor for the government, because the project belongs to Brazilian society. And senators and deputies did a favor for the very image of Congress, ”he said.
The speech was granted one day after Lula denied that the distribution of R$ 8.5 billion in amendments by the government had influenced the approval of the projects, and that he does not follow the policy of “it is given that you receive”. For him, what there is is a “negotiation” that is part of the policy to assemble a “majority” in parliament.
