Mondelez will finance a statue of Cícero Pompeu de Toledo, after whom the Morumbi stadium is named. The company, owner of the Bis brand, recently purchased the naming rights for the São Paulo Futebol Clube arena, which was renamed Morumbis.

The announcement was made on Thursday night at an event held in one of the stadium’s boxes.

“It will be a statue with the real image of Cícero who cannot be forgotten”, said the club’s president, Julio Casares, citing the difficulty in obtaining photographs of the leader, who died in 1959.

The statue will be placed at the main entrance to Morumbis. Casares also left open the possibility of paying tribute to Telê Santana, coach of the 1992 and 1993 world titles.

Mondelez will also seek to activate the brand with other initiatives, such as new boxes to be installed in the arena. The letters S-Ã-O that are on one of the gates will be auctioned. The initial bids will be R$1,500 each and the proceeds will go to charities.

Mondelez, which also owns Lacta, Tang, Belvita and Trident, was represented at the event by Mariano Lozano, CEO for Latin America; Maximiliano Cardoso, CEO for Brazil; and Álvaro Garcia, Vice President of Marketing.

According to Garcia, the company is pleased with how the purchase of naming rights was embraced by fans, which opens up the possibility for new actions.

To the executives, Casares commented that this Wednesday (28), when São Paulo defeated Internacional de Limeira 3-0 in the Campeonato Paulista, in Brasília, fans carried banners alluding to naming rights.

One of them called for the team to return to the federal capital with the banner: “Brasília calls for an encore”.
