Ministers and parliamentarians reflect the aggression against Moraes at an airport in Italy

Ministers and parliamentarians expressed themselves on social networks about the verbal aggression suffered by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes at the international airport in Rome, Italy, by a group of three Brazilians. The minister’s son would have been physically attacked during the episode.

The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, expressed solidarity with Moraes. “All solidarity with Minister Alexandre de Moraes and his family, attacked by anti-democrats. The defense of the Rule of Law and the security of our institutions, including their public agents, are essential pillars of democracy”, he said Padilha.

The Minister of the Social Communication Secretariat (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, said that the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and his family were the target of an “angry and anti-democratic group”. “I express my complete indignation against the acts of an angry and anti-democratic group that, unfortunately, still exists in Brazil and abroad. To the minister and family, my solidarity. Fascists will not pass! stated Pepper.

The Minister of Advocacy General of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, defended that the perpetrators of aggressions are “quickly brought to justice”. “Attacks of this nature are inconceivable in democracy. Legacy of a time when Brazil fell ill. May the perpetrators of this barbarity be quickly brought to justice so that events like this never happen again!”, said the AGU minister.

The President of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), Minister Bruno Dantas, ranked as “intolerable” the episode. “Nagging, harassing, verbally or physically attacking a public servant because of the work he or she does is intolerable. Unfortunately, Brazilian legislation still does not punish the savages who practice this type of crime with the necessary rigor. My solidarity with Alexandre de Moraes”, said Dantas.

Parliamentarians condemned the aggression against Moraes and his family

Senate opposition leader Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) repudiated the aggression suffered by the magistrate and your family. “Intimidation and physical violence are not instruments of political struggle. I repudiate this irrational form of demonstration, which does not help, which turns against those who practice it and levels us with those who represent the worst in our society”, said the senator.

“I have my differences and disagreements with the way the minister has conducted inquiries under his coordination. However, I cannot agree with the aggression against him and, mainly, against his son, who accompanied him. Brazil needs to get back to living with its differences, this is the backbone of democracy”, added Marinho.

The national president of the PT, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), claimed that the attacks on Moraes and his family would be “the result of the hatred disseminated by Bolsonarist leaders, who only know how to stimulate violence fueled by lies”.

The leader of the government in the Chamber, deputy José Guimarães (PT-CE), stated that the episode “is the cruel, hateful legacy left by former president [Jair Bolsonaro]who through his irresponsible speeches, stimulated the conflict against democratic institutions”.
