Minister Celso Sabino (Tourism) asked for an agenda with the new extraordinary secretary for COP30, Valter Correia, to defend that the UN global climate conference be held only in Belém (PA), amid rumors that the government would study transfer meetings to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro.
Sabino also intends to present the ministry’s actions for the summit, scheduled for 2025. “The tremendous efforts of President Lula, Governor Helder Barbalho (MDB), the mayor of Belém, Edmilson Rodrigues (PSOL), and all Pará leaders cannot be distorted by pressure from other states. The COP is from Brazil, but it will be in Pará”, he states.
Last Wednesday (20), the government created the Extraordinary Secretariat for Cop30, which will operate until June 30, 2026 and will be subordinate to the Civil House of the Presidency. The body will monitor the works necessary for the event, the management of contracts, agreements and agreements and the coordination of Public Power for security, health, urban mobility, air access and tourist capacity actions.
