Minister Daniela Carneiro asks to leave União Brasil – 04/10/2023 – Power

The Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, asked the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to disaffiliate from União Brasil.

She is 1 of the 3 names nominated by the party for the first echelon of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government. The delivery of the portfolios for Tourism, Communications, in addition to Integration and Regional Development, however, was not enough to fully attract the party, which declares itself independent, to the PT’s base.

The process was presented on the last 6th and is being reported by Minister Ricardo Lewandowski. Deputies Chiquinho Brazão, Dani Cunha, Juninho do Pneu, Ricardo David and Marcos Soares, all from Rio de Janeiro, also ask for disaffiliation from the party in the same process.

The minister became a focus of crisis in the government in the first days of her mandate when the Sheet showed her political ties with militiamen in Rio de Janeiro. Daniela, for example, received political support from former councilor Marcio Pagniez, known as Marcinho Bombeiro, who was arrested on remand.

In the Electoral Justice action pending, the parliamentarians claim that the president of the acronym, Luciano Bivar, even blocked access passwords to the system used to hold municipal conventions. “Such conduct is nothing more than a sneaky political maneuver to centralize party power in itself and its minions.”

They also claim that Bivar uses similar “authoritarian expedients” in other states to maintain political control of the party.

The parliamentarians also declared to the court that Bivar and his deputy, Antonio Rueda, have been appointing allies to positions within the party and the government.

“The serious political-personal discrimination stems from the attempt to remove the deputies from party life, by promising to expel them as a result of their position, especially considering the insults and threats perpetrated by the Vice-President against the applicants, for only defending a conduct based on the intra-party democracy.”

In the same lawsuit, they claim that the party has taken over, but has yet to pay, its candidates’ campaign debts.

When contacted, Bivar told the Sheet who became aware of the request made to the TSE.

“They entered the TSE with this request. The party will manifest itself within the records. This happened in the Bolsonaro government and the party responded in accordance with the regime of party loyalty”, said the president of União Brasil.

The minister and the deputies ask the TSE to declare that there is just cause for the party disaffiliation, without them receiving punishments such as the loss of mandates in the Chamber.

They also ask that the TV time and the party fund be transferred to the parliamentarians’ new parties.

The process also includes a letter from Daniela’s husband and mayor of Belford Roxo (RJ), Waguinho, informing that he will withdraw from União Brasil. In his case, there is no need to ask the Justice to leave the initials.

In the document addressed to the parliamentarians and attached to the process, Waguinho says that he expresses “respect and solidarity” with them, “currently victims of a regrettable and unacceptable environment of harassment and personal constraints.”

The request for disaffiliation presented to the TSE was revealed by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by Sheet.

“Allowing the maintenance of these resources with the offending party means, in addition to rewarding this anti-democratic action, empowering these leaders with even more power to continue with the harmful management practice, in clear opposition to the principle of reasonableness, in addition to being offensive to the representative system “, says the action.

Daniela Carneiro has denied having committed any irregularity in relation to her bond with militiamen. She said in January that “political support does not mean that she condones any supporter who may have committed an illicit act”. She also stated that it is up to Justice to “judge those who commit possible crimes”.

Lula, in an interview in March, downplayed the minister’s situation and said that she would be fired if it was demonstrated that the link went beyond photographs with the militiamen.
