Mexican chef Elena Reygadas was announced this week by the 50 Best World ranking as the Best Female Chef of 2023. Elena is chef and owner of the Rosetta restaurant in Mexico City. In 2014, she received the title of Best Female Chef in Latin America, also an award from the 50Best 2023 ranking.

This year, Elena was awarded for her dedication to preserving the cultural diversity of the native peoples of Mexico, promoting and valuing local foods and for her work to train female chefs in the country and make the kitchens of the country’s great restaurants more egalitarian. The chef, who is one of the main names in Mexican gastronomy, has a scholarship program aimed at women who enter culinary schools.

Last year, Elena’s restaurant ranked 60th in the 50Best Worldwide ranking and 37th in the Latam 50Best, which only includes establishments in Latin America. Located in an old mansion in Mexico City, Rosetta opened its doors in 2010 and its main proposal is to value traditional Mexican dishes and ingredients. Emphasizing the use of vegetables, the menu is constantly changing according to the seasonality of local ingredients.

In the Rosetta mansion, in addition to the restaurant, the customer also finds a bar, located on the second floor of the property: Salón Rosetta. There, the customer can try drinks and fermented drinks prepared with Mexican ingredients. The space also has a shop, Mesa Rosetta, where tableware items developed by Elena in partnership with local designers and artisans are sold.

The 50Best 2023 Best Female Chef announcement was the first in a series of pre-announcements of the annual ranking’s multiple category winners. This year’s award, where the 50 best restaurants in the world according to the list will be known, will take place on June 20, in the city of Valencia, Spain.
