The Brazilian men’s volleyball team beat Iran this Saturday (7) by three sets to zero (25/19, 25/20 and 25/23) in the pre-Olympic tournament being played in Rio de Janeiro. Now, the team led by coach Renan dal Zotto needs to beat Italy, on Sunday (8), at 10 am, to guarantee their place in the Paris Games.
If they lose the competition, Brazil will need to seek classification through the rankings next year.
The national team is second in group A and had a good campaign in the championship. The team had just one defeat, against Germany, which leads the group with 15 points. Italy is in third place, with 12.
Only the top two of the eight teams in the group qualify for the Olympic Games. This Saturday, Germany and Italy face Qatar and Cuba, respectively.
The pre-Olympics have two other keys up for grabs. The last round of matches will be on Sunday.
Brazil debuted in the championship in September, with a three-set victory against Qatar. Then, they got the better of the Czech Republic (3×2). Renan’s team was unable to overcome Germany, who won three to one.
The team then won the next three matches, against Ukraine, Cuba and Iran, respectively.
